Selection guide

Which valve when — 3/2, 5/2 or 5/3

FunctionWhat it is forNote
3/2Single-acting cylinders, vacuum ejectors, blow-off, pilot signalsNC (normally closed) — standard; NO — when it must be open without a signal
5/2Double-acting cylinders — extend/retractMonostable (spring) or bistable (2 coils) — bistable stays in position if the signal is lost
5/3When the cylinder must stop mid-stroke or be releasedMid position: closed (holds), exhaust (releases) or pressurised
2/2Liquids, gases, steam — open/closeProcess valves (ASCO, Bürkert, Camozzi)

Four parameters that decide the choice

Flow (Cv / Nl/min)

Calculate from cylinder volume and desired speed. An undersized valve = slow cylinder, and pressure won’t “fix” it.

Port

M5 for small, G1/8 typically up to Ø40, G1/4 up to Ø63, G3/8–G1/2 for large. Port follows flow, not the other way round.

Voltage and control

24 V DC — industrial standard; 230 V AC — in older machines. With manual override for maintenance. Ex version for hazardous areas.

Single or island

From 3–4 valves a valve island on a shared base pays off: one air feed, fewer tubes, easier to maintain.

FAQ

About pneumatic valves

What is the difference between a 3/2 and a 5/2 valve?

The numbers mean ports/positions. A 3/2 (3 ports, 2 positions) drives single-acting cylinders; a 5/2 drives double-acting cylinders — extend/retract. A 5/3 adds a mid position.

How do I choose the right solenoid valve?

Key: function (3/2, 5/2, 5/3), port size, voltage (24V DC, 230V AC) and flow. Give us these and we’ll match — or send an existing code for an equivalent.

Are there SMC or Festo valve equivalents?

Yes. We offer interchangeable valves (Camozzi, Festo, Aventics, etc.) — send the code and we’ll find a match with a better price or lead time.

How fast will I get the valves?

Standard valves from our Riga stock — shipped within 24 h. The rest from the EU warehouse in a few days.

Need a specific valve?

Send a code or function (3/2, 5/2, voltage) — we reply with price and availability the same day.
